Dear Sisters and Brothers
親愛な姉妹兄弟のみなさん、
It was two years ago, on Aug. 6th 2008 that I joined with you in Hiroshima for the 63rd Anniversary Grand Action Plenary and March. I was in the land of my ancestors, with the people who have directly experienced the horrors of war and nuclear warfare.
63回目の広島原爆記念日に、私が8・6大行動の集会とデモに参加したのは、2年前の2008年8月6日のことでした。私は、私の祖父母の国であるこの地に、戦争の恐怖と核戦争の惨禍を直接体験した国の人びとと共に立ったのです。
It is a helpless and painful feeling, and though we can never go back in time, we can resolve with dedication and solidarity our quest for peaceful solutions to war and the murder of innocent people.
とても辛く苦しい思いに胸が押しつぶされそうですが、時を戻すことはできません。でも、私たちの献身と連帯をもってすれば、戦争と罪なき人びとの殺害の平和的解決の探求は、実現することができます。
On this your 65th anniversary of the bombings, the urgency for nuclear disarmament and redefining security is even more urgent. President Obama has requested seven billion dollars in 2011, a 10% increase over 2010, for modemizing the nuclear weapons complex. The U.S. has over 9,400 nuclear weapons of the 23,300 in the world.
65回目の原爆記念日を迎えた今日、緊急に核兵器をなくしていかねばなりません。安全保障という考え方の見直しは、さらに一刻の猶予もなくなされなければなりません。オバマ大統領は、核兵器体系を最新化する予算として、2011年度には2010年度よりさらに10％増の70億ドルを要求しています。アメリカは、世界の核兵器保有数23,300発のうちの9,400発を保有しているのです。
And while U.S. taxpayers have spent over $5.5 trillion to develop our nuclear arsenal, an unprecedented economic crisis has pushed more Americans into poverty, with cuts to schools, social services and health care. This is insanity.
アメリカの納税者は核兵器【arsenal は文字通りには「兵器庫」ですが、nuclear arsenal は「核兵器」の集合名詞】のために5兆5000億円以上も費やしてきたというのに、未曾有の経済危機で学校や社会福祉、健康保険などへの支出がカットされ、多くのアメリカ人が貧困へと追いやられています。これはもう常軌を逸しています。
Brothers and sisters- know that the American people are joining with you in places all over the United States. We are having nonviolent actions at nuclear power plants, somber words of reflections with floating lanterns in the water, marches for peace with people from all walks of life. We join you in saying "never again." There must never again be a nuclear bomb strike as the moming of Aug 6th in Hiroshima and Aug. 9th in Nagasaki, Japan. Never gain.
兄弟柿妹のみなさん、アメリカの国民は、国の至るところでみなさんに連帯していることをお知らせします。原子力発電所の前で非暴力闘争を展開し、厳粛な反省の言葉を記した灯篭を水に流し、あらゆる層の人びとが共に平和行進をします。「二度と繰り返しません」と言ってみなさんに合流します。8月6日の広島と8月9日の長崎の朝のような原爆投下を二度と繰り返してはならないのです。絶対に、二度とあってはなりません。
